Aad
van Bergen- Henegouwen lives in the town
of Poeldijk which is located between the
towns of Monster and Wateringen in Holland.
A distance flyer who loves to race from
St Vincent, Dax, Barcelona, etc,. Aad
unlike many from Holland races his pigeons
on the natural system and a favourite
quotation of this fancier is as follows:
‘The natural system is like business,
you need to have the feeling. The peaks
can be high but if things do not work
out well the valleys are deep’.
In
1962 when he still was at school Aad got
some birds from a Mr Ledderhof . These
short- and middle distance birds did very
well for him but then he left the sport
for a period of years but eventually returned
forming a combination with his nephew.
Winning a few championships along the
way with pigeons from a distance fancier
called Jeu Vervuurt. The nephew and uncle
partnership did not last for long however
and Aad found himself with some youngsters
of the Vervuurt family plus ten eggs purchased
from Leo van Rijn from Schipluiden. Then
on his own bat so to speak with the latter
as a basis Aad raced with some average
success but eventually reached beyond
the average status until today he is considered
one of the top distance flyers in
Europe.
Since
those early days he has brought in some
of the best European bloodlines such as
Piet v.d.Silk, Jan Ernest,Thomas Peeters,
Kuypers Bros, Albert Simons as well as
in latter years the bloodlines of Jac
van der Wegen. This has led to the following
results from St Vincent 3rd, 6th, 10th,
18th and 37th National and from Barcelona
he was 32nd International hens and from
Pau 34th National.
Always
on the look out for good distance bloodlines
Aad (in 2002) bought eight pigeons from
Jan Theelen a past winner of the Barcelona
International and he looks forward to
further successes with pigeons containing
the latter cross. It is to be noted that
his racers number about forty eight birds
and that for his own use approximately
sixty squeakers are reared and the latter
are raced upto approximately four hundred
and fifty kilometres.Of course these races
are merely training spins for Aad has
his sights firmly set upon the long distance. And
as such he will be heard of in the future.
