Blood
Flight is a debut novel by Graham McArthur of
Scotland. Now there are debut novel's and debut
novel's but this is one of the best that I have
read in years and it is a must for pigeon fanciers
and anyone who relishes a dam good read. It is
written by a pigeon fancier and the contents reveals
an atmosphere which can only be described as reeking
of the sport. For the general reader it is full
of mystery and to whose who love this genre I
assure them of a good read as well as having the
opportunity of obtaining a good insight into a
sport of which its adherents believes to be the
greatest sport on earth.
The
novel tells the story of an exile Scottish son
in Canada who returns to Fife to bury his pigeon
fancier father and hence delves into the mystery
of his father's brutal murder. A murder which
appears to be connected to the exploits of a champion
racing pigeon. However I do not want to give too
much away which would destroy the enjoyment of
the read but I would like to say that the son's
search for the truth is enthralling within the
context of a well written plot. And I have no
doubt that Graham McArthur has captured the passion
and the excitement of the sport of pigeon racing.
This
is a well written murder/mystery story and I would
suggest that it be bought and enjoyed. It would
be a good Christmas present especially for a friend
who would be ignorant of the sport. At least all
fanciers should read it.
