Banbridge based husband and wife team Timmy & Kiera Mawhinney had a year to remember with their excellent show pigeons, not only dominating the local show scene but also bringing major awards back from the 2007 Show of the Year in the Blackpool's Winter Gardens in the early part of the year, they included John Ambler Cup, BOS Award and 1st Best Racing Bird T/W. It followed up nicely the achievements from the previous year when Eamon Wright & Son from Moira won Young Hen Flown, and Best YB Flown in 2005.

Dublin has been a happy hunting ground and the loft scored a best ever list of success at the Annual Open Show held at the Irish Kennel Club Exhibition Centre on Saturday 10th November. They won 7 Classes which included Old Cock Flown Channel, Old Hen Flown Channel, OC Flown, OH Flown, YC Flown, Young Cock Through Wires, and Young Hen Through Wires. On the top of that they collected the Best in Show award and Most Points in the Show. It was the lofts best year since 2003 when they won 7 Classes plus BOS and Most Points in Show, they had already won Best In Show in both 2001 (as Ivan Mawhinney & Son) and 2004.

Other class winners included E Wright & Son (Moira) 1st Young Hen flown, Wayne Ellis 1st Any Age Cock/Hen Eyesign, D Cummins 1st Old Cock T/W, B Hobbs 1st Old Hen T/W, K Henderson & Son (Lurgan) 1st Matched Pairs, D Farrelly 1st Colour Class, K Berney 1st Any Age Cock Unflown, K Berney 1st Class 14B, Joe Boylan 1st Any Age Hen Unflown, K Berney 1st Class 15B, Brown & Shaw (Dromore) 1st Late Bred (One last Flight). Rob Farrelly collected the award for Best Opposite Sex. The main sponsors in 2007 were Petron Lofts and Sarah Hall kindly presented the awards.

Visitors from Northern Ireland lifted some Red Cards including Eamon Wright & Son, Kevin Henderson and Brown & Shaw, Simon Millar from Randalstown had two birds in the Eyesign class and both had cards and W & N Gilbert from Harryville had cards as well.

The winner of BIS was T K Rainbow the latest star of the T & K Mawhinney loft, this Dark Cheq hen has won before including Young Hen flown at Blackpool, plus Belfast and last Xmas at Edgarstown, Horseshoe and Dromore. Another big winner with a big future is Young Tod already a winner of 3 x 1sts, the big show season has just started and we might just be hearing al lot more from the lofts on T & K Mawhinney.

Strain of the birds kept are Tod Hunter and Ismay Dordins crossed with Davy Mawhinney Soontjens and Albert Schumacher from Holland. His father Ivan kept him going in the right direction and he was the key to the continued success, wife Kiera has been involved looking after the stock from 2002 and results have improved up to and including Blackpool Show of the Year. Previously they had showed under the name I Mawhinney & Son but in 2004 that was changed to T & K Mawhinney. Since Blackpool they have received lots of kind messages and would like to thank everyone who sent congratulations, they themselves wish to thank Tod Hunter and Ismay, Paul Jones of the Skerries a top link for WKD Lofts and Donnelly Bros from Newry City for their valuable advice
