For decades now the Frenken Brothers, Jac and Harry, have been striving to win the world famous Barcelona pigeon race. The most important race for long distance and marathon fanciers in Europe. The Brothers have yet to win the race but to show how determined the Frenkens are since 1978 until 2004 they put approximately 400 pigeons into the race and in the International results they have scored over 225 prizes. Their best performances so far were 7th and twice a 10th place nationally. The Frenkens started in the sport approximately in 1960 because Harry had friends who were already fanciers and who provided some pigeons to get started. As partners they work very closely together for this helps to spread the load required to race pigeons today. They have introduced crosses from such famous families as Brakhuis, Theelen, Peters, and Kuijpers as well as others but find that their old family which they have cultivated for almost three decades are as reliable as any whenever it comes to racing. The latter is known as the 'Turbo line'. For instance the 'Turbo 106' in 1998 won 128th position Barcelona National against 6,290 birds and in 1999 won 35th Barcelona National against 8,140 birds. Also in 1999 two sons of the 'Turbo 106' participated in the distance races winning good prizes. The grandfather of the 'Turbo 106' is a half brother of their own '117 stock hen'. On the mother's side a coupling of 'Catrysse x sister Turbo 2'. 'Turbo 2' is a son of the '117 stock hen' and won 10 prizes out of 10, six of these were won from Barcelona. A second descendant from the 'Turbo Line' is the 'Turbo Frans'. His father is a direct van der Wegen ('Oud Doffertje x Lamme') coupled with a daughter of the 'Turbo 1'. This 'Turbo 1' is a son of the famous '117 stock hen', who was bred with 1st national Marseille for Keunen - Nijssen (Sevenum, Holland). He also was one of the Frenken pigeons. A grandson of the 'Turbo Frans' who won in 1999 as a yearling 215th Provincial Bordeaux against 11,756 birds and 122nd Dax National against 19,125 birds. There is another grandson of 'Turbo Frans' who won as yearling in 2001 a 228th Provincial Montauban against 4,525 competitors and also won the 11th National Dax against 18,323 birds. Thus there are grounds for confidence in the brothers Turbo line as they firmly believe. For decades now the Frenken Brothers, Jac and Harry, have been striving to win the world famous Barcelona pigeon race. The following are some highlights of the Frenken lofts: 1th European Cup 1988; 1th Champion Long distance Marathon Limburg 1995; 1th National St. Vincent 2001; 2th National Long distance Marathon 2001; 2th National Perpignan 1995; 3th National Marseille; 5th West European Super Long Distance Marathon; 5th West European Super Long Distance Marathon; 7th National Barcelona; 8th National Long distance Marathon; 9th National Long Distance Marathon; 9th National Perpignan; 10th National Barcelona; 11th National Dax; 11th National Pau; 12th National Long distance Marathon; 13th West European Super Long distance Marathon; 13th National Marseille; 21th National Pau; 24th National Barcelona; 26th National Barcelona; 27th National Barcelona; 27th National Barcelona; 27th National St. Vincent; 29th National Barcelona; 32th National Barcelona; 34th National Perpignan; 35th National Barcelona; 39th National Perpignan; 41th National Pau; 41th National St. Vincent; 41th National Perpignan; 46th National St. Vincent; 46th National Perpignan; 46th National Perpignan; 47th National Pau; 50th National Barcelona; Car Winner WEFO 1989.

The above are fabulous results by any standard especially within a hot bed of pigeon racing such as Holland and the European Internationals but Jac and Harry will not feel content until they win the marathon of all marathons- the Barcelona International. Perhaps this year will see them fulfilling that dream if not the International then the National from Barcelona. I wish them the best for the future.
