On
Friday 11th November the annual Nipa Ladies night
was held in the Templeton Hotel in Templepatrick.
The chief quest for the evening was the General
manager of the RPRA Mr Peter Bryant and his good
lady. When everyone was present and had been seated
Malcolm Livingston the Nipa President opened up
the evening and presented the top table to the
floor. He called upon Diamond Carson to say grace
in which he duly said. It was then time for the
lovely meal that had been prepared by the catering
staff of the Templeton.
Once the course was finished it was time for the
main presentation and Fred Russell conducted this
with the prizes being presented by the General
Manager of the RPRA.
Peter Bryant gave an insight into the time he
and his wife served in Northern Ireland for three
years with the RAF. He told the large crowd that
he had a lot of respect for the friendly people
of Northern Ireland and when he and his wife left
the province they took with them a baby son Gary
born here in Northern Ireland. He also has a soft
spot for the “Black Bush”(Peter you
have good taste). And when Sammy Thompson goes
to the annual meetings he makes sure he takes
over a bottle of the good stuff. Peter showed
the crowd a certificate from 1945 from the very
first year of the Nipa presented to messers JL
& R Boyle. He cracked a joke about the race
points and the road systems we had then and how
long it must have taken to get to some of these,
especially Penzance.
Then moved on to the subject of avian flue and
about the meeting he had with Defra and was 99%
sure that shows would be allowed to go ahead and
the ministry would sign this off shortly. A sale
of pigeons was a grey area at this time. After
the brief discussion on this matter the guest
of honour asked the gentlemen of the room to stand
and raise their glasses in respect to the ladies
of the sport. This was really appreciated by the
large S Calvert Cup: crowd. Peter was then asked
to present the prizes to all of the big open winners.

After all the trophies had been presented the
crowd was treated to some great entertainment,
which went on into the small wee hours, and all
had a great night. What was great to see was the
large round of applause Mrs Mairs received when
she handed over a lovely trophy in memory of her
late husband the great Section B fancier Leslie
Mairs. It was a very emotional event for Mrs Mairs
and know doubt her husband was smiling down at
her.
In closing the night was a huge success and a
lot of thanks must go to all those people who
behind the scenes made this night a huge success.
The members of the Nipa would like to pass on
their appreciation to the General Manager of the
RPRA on taking out the time and effort for presenting
the wonderful array of trophies to all those lucky
winners, and also to the staff and caters of the
Templeton Hotel for the wonderful meal and for
going out of their way in helping out a good friend
of mine for her special menu.
