The from the final race of the N.I.P.A programmed Old Bird Derby flown from Dinard Fletcher and son won 1st Club 1st Section "E" ( 1,954 birds ) with a Blue Cock.

This Blue Cock is a class pigeon one that I would call a "Champion" 1st Club 4th Section "E" 9th Open N.I P.A Sennan Cove Classic, 5th Skibbereen Derby 3rd Bude in 1988, Before his wonderful win from Dinard the Blue Cock had won 2nd Club 20th Section "E" ( 7,489 birds ) Fermoy 2nd Club 24th Open New North Flying Club bude ( 1,400 birds ).

The main aim at Oakfield Loft's is to build a dual purpose family of pigeons that can win in the long races and over the channel.

The results in 1989 are very encouraging and the Loft manager Ron Williamson must have be delighted with what has been achieved since he arrived at Oakfield to manage these pigeons.

One of the largest winning lofts in Ireland's history, The Oakfield Lofts of Bertie Fletcher and son Cyril have the greatest recorded history of winners, Mr. Fletcher's loft was dispersed years ago due to the ill health of its founder, and many of his foundation birds can still be found throughout Ireland and England.

Mr. Fletcher certainly was a great contender in his day, and Pigeon Network wishes to take this opportunity to pause for a moment and remember someone so dedicated and powerful in our great sport of ours. We wish his family all the best and will always fondly think of Bertie and what he did for the sport of pigeon racing.
