NIPA Pilmore Beach (2) on 24th May: Ron's on Top of the WORLD!

Ron Williamson scores with "Double Heartbreaker" 9th Open NIPA Pilmore Beach (1) 27,039 birds, 2nd Open NIPA Rosscarbery Nat 6,900 birds, and now 1st Open NIPA Pilmore Beach (2) on 24th May.
The B & A Brown and S & W Shaw team won 1st Club Dromore HPS at the weekend from Pilmore Beach (2) and look good for 1st NIPA Sect D.

Sammy Leitch of the S & A Leitch partnership took the Red Card in Doagh & District with this Blue cock of the M & D Evans bloodlines.

Marshall & Wilson (Wilbert & June) topped the large Larne & District HPS from Pilmore Beach and also topped the local Horseshoe HPS for good measure.

The top two in Harryville HPS from Pilmore Beach, Allen McBride (l) and Keith Kernohan who finished runner-up twice in the one week.

Gary McKenna topped the Eastway Club in East Antrim with this Lt Cheq yearling hen, this her only second outing this season and a super result.

The Cully Family from the coastal village of Portavogie, the future of the sport is here.

Jeff Surgenor from Kells & Dist won 1st Mid Antrim Comb from Pilmore Beach and favourite to top Sect B.

Ron McKelvey from the Newry & District took 1st North South Federation from Pilmore Beach (2).
Topping Ards HPS from Pilmore the Pollock & Nelson team, included Eric, Ryan, Victor and young Darragh Nelson.

Pilmore Beach was the release point this weekend for the NIPA, East Down Combine and the Irish South Road Federation the South Road were also in Talbenny South Wales and the East Coast Federation opting for Rosscarbery with the Ulster Federation enjoying their first Derby race of the season from Skibbereen. With what was a fresh Easterly/North Easterly wind in some parts, it was sure to prove a test for many lofts, a true test for the pigeons with the winners just doing over 40 miles per hours. With many homing in after a 6, 7 or 8 hour fly, this will certainly be a good stepping stone and education for the channel events that start next week. When this is published the Irish National Flying Club will with some luck have had a very successful O/B Inland National from Skibbereen yesterday (Wednesday) with me now getting my weekly RP on-line, which I must add is a fantastic job early hours every Thursday morning when I quote yesterday for Skibbereen it will be to me when I read this column but for those of you who still get it at the newsagents the INFC Skibbereen O/B Inland National is due to be flown Wednesday  28th March although the weather forecast today doesn’t  paint a pretty picture with rain covering much of the country (but we have seen the weather forecasts wrong before). Something I have found very good with the On-Line RP edition is the news is out faster than any other publication plus when you have all your editions on-line you can go back anytime and flick through them at your leisure, often in my house anyway, if the books are lying about to long when you return to look for something you read a few weeks back, which is very often the case being a scribe, I discover that the wife has thrown  them out, I guess she has seen enough of my fathers house, a man that has retained every single weekly publication for the last 35 years.

Well back to the task on hand and this weekends racing, many lofts have reported good returns and perhaps this can be regarded as a true pigeon race and with good times popping up in different parts of the country many good early pigeons were timed, of all the velocities I have seen with regards the race with the NIPA and some very good pigeons flying over 1200 yards per minute, the best one and the loft that finished 1st & 4th NIPA Open 27,039 birds competing a fortnight ago from the same race point and looks set this time to finish 1st and 2nd Open, although all results aren’t in but certainly looks a good thing as I approach submission of this weekly column is the one and only “The Rocket” Ron Williamson of Portadown who flies in the Bondhill HPS.

Ron has a couple of very good pigeons doing 1233ypm and 1220 ypm he timed his first pigeon “Double Heartbreaker” flying in a strong easterly/north easterly wind at 2.23pm flying 185 miles. What a flier this man is and after a couple of years of taking a back seat so to speak after his son Dell was involved in a motor bike accident and with Dell now making inward roads to recovery Ron is back were he left off setting the NIPA Open alight with his incredible performances that have many fanciers wondering how he does it. When you have good pigeons and an equally good racing system, how can you be beat, just look at this weeks Open Winner a Black Yearling Cock racing Widowhood now named “Double Heartbreaker“ - on Monday from the National 1st Club, 1st Section, 2nd Open NIPA Rosscarbery Inland National beat by 3 yards, the week before that in Pilmore again he was 3rd Club, 7th Section, 9th Open (beaten by loft mates Ron was 1st and 4th Open in this race and numerous other positions) then also from Roscrea this year this same pigeon was 3rd Club, 4th Section and 28th Open on top of that take into consideration this weekends race 1st Club, 1st Section and 1st Open NIPA, will take a very good one to stop yet more RPRA Awards coming back to Ireland. This same Black Yearling cock ring number 05064 finished 17th Open Talbenny Y/B National last year after sitting out 7 minutes the breeding of this super pigeon also makes exceptional reading Sire is a son of “Champion Heartbreaker“ when mated to a “Champion Maggie Ann“ that mating on their own produced a pigeon by the name of “Supreme Lady“ who won 2 x 1st NIPA Open‘s also “Maggie Ann“ won the NIPA Rosscarbery Derby as it was then and went out the next week and finished 3rd Open INFC Skibbereen winning in total £4,000, “Champion Heartbreaker“

I do not need to fill you in on that pigeons achievements they are well recorded and documented  now that’s the Sire‘s side of things, the Dam of “Double Heartbreaker” is bred from a son of “Millennium Superstar” when mated to a daughter of “Champion Yeboah” again between these two pigeons countless Open Winners. Now “Champion Heartbreaker” and “Millennium Superstar” are ½ Brothers both bred from the same Sire. So their we have all four grandparents with a combined record number of NIPA 1st’s little wonder they are combining to produce multiple prize winners at the highest possible level. This is now Ron’s 52nd x 1st NIPA Open success on top off 4 x 1st Nationals. Were else in the world will you find a pigeon fancier with a record like that, I have stated it before and will gladly do so again Ronnie Williamson is the Best Pigeon Fancier in the World. Thanks to Adie for the introduction and coverage of Ron Williamson, also the NIPA Sections D, E, F & G getting better all the time, thank goodness the coverage is appreciated by the massive majority. Rosscarberry OB Inland National - On Sat 17th May conditions in Rosscarbery were not favourable for a liberation and the convoyer who has the final say on whether or not to release the birds decided not to liberate. On Sun 18th conditions at Rosscarbery were quite good but unfortunately conditions in the Galtees were very poor with rain, poor visibility, and very cold and again a liberation was not possible. Monday 19th conditions were perfect and the birds were liberated at 9.15am in a South Easterly wind and it would by all reports appear to have been a good race. Congratulations to all the winners. Those who are saying that the birds should have been liberated on Saturday or on Sunday do not have the full picture, and would not appear to have the interest of the pigeons at heart.

The pigeons were not held on Saturday because of drug testing or wing stamping, there were no pigeons drug tested. One Nat Centre was completely wing stamped in Dromore on Thursday evening before the birds left for Rosscarbery. I hope this dispels any rumours that are circulating within the pigeon fraternity and I would like to thank everyone for bearing with us during a very difficult weekend. The convoyer should be thanked for the condition in which the pigeons returned to their respective lofts, also the race controller and everyone who helped in any way.

Weather forecast for this incoming weekend looks satisfactory for the Saturday liberation from Pilmore Beach. Please remember collection times are one hour earlier than usual. Fred Russell NIPA Secretary.
