Fermoy success for Bertie Blair of Ballymena & District
The Nipa were in County Cork for their Fermoy and Fermoy 5 Bird duplicated races on Saturday 31st August. Birds were released at 9.30am in light south easterly winds. The ever popular Bertie Blair of Ballymena & District had the best two birds in the Mid Antrim Combine and finished 5th & 6th Section and 16th & 54th Open Nipa 414/9736 velocity 1532 & 1521. Bertie timed his first two birds at 13.20 and 13.22 pm flying 201 miles to his Chichester loft's in Ballymena. Bertie's first bird a cheq cock was purchased in a kit of six from the Delaney O'Roory Hill Stud. The sire is Jacobs and the dam is Luc Vervoort x Philip Baadjou. Bertie also had the cock entered in the 5 Bird event winning 1st Mid Antrim Combine, 2nd Section B and an excellent 6th Open Nipa. Bertie's second bird timed is a full sister to last seasons 2nd Section and 13th Open Nipa Skibbereen young bird National. Breeding is Heremans-Ceuster, with the sire purchased from the late Lexie Mullan at his dispersal sale. That's 6 x 1st club, 3 x 1st Mid Antrim Combine wins and 1st Section Kilbeggan in the young bird season for the ever consistent Bertie Blair.
Harold Cubitt was next best on 1499 and also won both races with the same bird finishing 3rd Combine Fermoy and 2nd Combine in the 5 Bird event. Harold's bird is bred from Van Loon stock he acquired from John & Mark Milliken in 2018
Gary Gibson was best in Cullybackey on 1498 and finished 4th Combine. Sire is a son of Emperor and the dam, Gary's No1 daughter of the Golden Couple. She is dam to 1st Open Nipa Bude etc. Gary' 5 Bird winner was Lambrechts x Wildermeerch.
Trevor Whyte won Ahoghill in both races on 1472 with his 2nd Roscrea winner bred by Kevin Rooney.
Jonathon Barkley & Laura Surgenor had the best bird in Kells on 1474 and timed one from a kit from Delaney's O'Roory Hill Stud. Gregg Bros won the 5 Bird Event in Kells with another youngster in a kit from O'Roory Hill Stud. Marcarc Neilly was best in Broughshane in both races with a cheq cock that is the nest mate to his 2nd Roscrea winner. Sire a Van Mechelen cock from Paddy & William McManus when paired to a hen bought in a kit of young birds from Geoff Dickey 2021.
