Kilbeggan (2) YB
26/7/25
With a NIPA convoy numbering some 10,000
pigeons, the second young bird race of the season took place from kilbeggan racecourse . Conditions were favourable and a liberation took place at 10 am.
Winning the EAA this week is last years champion YB flyer Gary McKenna of Eastway.
He timed a lovely powder blue hen with a smashing velocity of 1642!
Gary in his own words said “Rocket by name” she came like a rocket and trapped without wasting a second, the breeding of this hen is indeed a “Rea Rocket” bred by Robert Rea of Larne & District. Gary purchased two from Rab in a charity sale with Rab in turn decorating him with a further two for young grandson Riley (pictured) The sire was retired from racing this year & now resides at stock.
He was paired to a daughter of the number 1 hen which is responsible for multiple section winners and top prizes both for Rab & others, the number 1 hen is without doubt the cream of the van herk/ rea rockets and it’s great to see sportsmanship within our organisation between two super lofts!
A mention to Geo Robinson & Joe Crawford putting in a strong card for Carrick social
Gary & Riley finished up 1st Section C & 22nd open NIPA
Another point to note section D was also won on the same day/race with more Rab rea blood with O&M Monaghan doing the damage in Belfast
Well done to everyone concerned on yet another top performance !
Good luck to you all this week from roscrea!
Any objections to the secretary with 7 days
