The Cloughmartin birds were released on Friday 23rd May at 7.30am in west north westerly winds and an excellent race followed. Jonny Barkley and Laura Surgenor of Kells & District had the best local bird topping the Mid Antrim Combine on 1616 ypm and finishing 2nd Section B 1899 birds. Their winning yearling blue cock is Staf Van Reet/Vandenbrande x Lambrecht. Runner up in the Combine was Bertie Blair of Ballymena who was winning for the third time this season and has also been runner up in the Combine for the second time this year. Bertie timed a 2yo blue cock from a pair of direct Leo Van Rijn's he brought in from Belgium on the QT. A good racing cock for Bertie having been 2nd club beaten by lovemate a fortnight ago from Fermoy and twice 7th Combine last season.
Bext best Alan Darragh had the top three in Cullybackey HPS and 3rd, 4th and 5th Combine with the winner doing 1600. Other winners included William McFetridge in Rasharkin on 1587 with a dark Lambrecht cock bred off his No1 pair down from Jackie Steele stock. Trevor Whyte was best in Ahoghill on 1586 with a homebred yearling pied lambrecht hen. Sire is off the '22 Cock' Trev's Nipa Open winner from Tullamore in 2022. Dam is a lambrecht hen gifted by good friend Robin Service to Trevor's son Joshua. She is a double granddaughter of Liam and is the mother of 'Wee Rab' a Combine winner for Robin in 2021. Marc Neilly was best in Broughshane on 1550 with the same cock that won the opening race of the season from Kilbeggan. Sire Vandenbrande from Bertie Blair and dam from Jonny Simpson.
