Rock & Moore Top The Combine From Dunmanway National
The racing season continued with the first major National race of the year from Dunmanway in County Cork. Birds were released on Friday 23rd May at 7.00am in west north westerly winds. Rock & Moore of the Cullybackey club had the best pigeon in the Mid Antrim Combine this week timing their 3yo blue pied hen at 11.33am for the 247 mile fly to the lofts at Albert Place in the center of the Ballymena town. Jimmy and Darrell's winner doing 1593ypm was sitting 10 days on eggs and is from a Jacobs x Vandenbulck cock bred from their Delaney stock paired to 'Elizabeth' 1st Open Nipa Penzance and 1st Open Penzance OB Classic for Jimmy in 2017.
Runners up in the Cullybackey club and Combine were Jimmy & Jamie Greer on 1592. The granda and grandson partnership timed a yearling blue cock off a pair of direct Vermeerbergen-Wilms stock. The sire is a grandson of the Tarzan when paired to New Patrica on one side, and on the other side is a full brother to 2nd national ace kdbd. The dam of the cock is a daughter of the brother to 1st national Argenton when paired to a niece of National Wonder.
Harry Boyd was best in Kells on 1573 and placed 3rd Combine with 2 year old blue cock bred from Sammy Ogle Soontjen stock. Ace racers and breeders Paddy & William McManus were placed 4th in the Combine on 1572 and also took the top five in Ahoghill club. Their winner a yearling blue hen won the club by 9 minutes. She was bred from a Willie Vranken pied cock when paired to a blue pied Lambrecht hen with a frill. Freddie Barkley had the winner in Rasharkin on 1565 and 5th Combine with a yearling cheq Sticker Donckers hen racing on roundabout.
Johnston Eagleson & Sons took the top four positions in the Ballymena & District club with the winner doing 1563. Sire of the winning red yearling hen was a gift cock from Paddy & William McManus being a Gert Heylen grandson of Jackpot when he was paired to a daughter of Danny Dixon's Champion Heartbreaker while the dam is a self bred Vandenbulck.Willy Gilbert and son William had the winner in Randalstown on 1524 with a yearling cheq cock, a Tom Larkins Busschaert.
