IHUNFC News.
The IHUNFC held their second and final old bird inland National last Friday from Valentia in Co Kerry.
105 members sent a total of 1255 birds, which were marked in the five marking stations designated for Inland racing, Thanks must go to all those in charge of the marking stations and all those who volenteer to help at each, an effiecient system, as all went according to plan and the birds were away to the racepoint in good time.
The race itself had to be brought forward by one day as the weather forecast for the Saturday was anything but good, and this turned out to be the right decision for the birds welfare.
The birds were liberated by our very reliable convoyer Pat Keating at 7:30am Friday morning.
With the wind in a south westerly direction at the racenpoint, it was no suprise to see the first birds being clocked in the south east area, and there to take advantage of the prevailing conditions was the ultra suscessful,
Dempsey Bros of the Blackwater club,
they had a fantastic race winning,
1st, 2nd, 3rd Sect "B" 1st, 3rd & 4th Open, a 2yo and two Yearlings doing the buisness for the partnership.
Their winning velocity was 1587ypm for the 165 mile journey.
Taking 1st Sect "C" 2nd Open was Watty Cullen of the Kilkenny club, The sire of Watties bird was bred by Mark Eubanks of Banbridge, the Dam was bred by his good friend Jimmy Conran of the Graiugenamannagh club, ástonishingly this same Hen is also the Dam of Jimmy Conrans 2023 Valentia National winner "Jacko" the bloodlines come down from
Joe Ward NI "Bandid Cock".
Watties bird produced a velocity of 1542ypm for the 134 mile journey.
2nd Sect "C" 7th Open went to Fred Malone & John Morrissy of the Kilkenny Club, a 2yo Blue cock on a velocity of 1523ypm doing the job for the partnership.
3rd Sect " C" 9th Open was Reggie Condron of the Carlow Premier club, Reggie has only just established himself at his new lofts, so I am sure we will be hearing a lot more from this loft in times to come.
Velocity 1507ypm.
1st & 2nd Sect "D" 12th, 18th Open was
Joe Flynn of Waterford,
Joe's birds, a Red cock and a cheq pied hen were on velocities of 1502ypm and 1491ypm.
Other notable performances were put up by Brennan Bros in Sect "C" with four together, all in the first 16 of the Open.
P & L Whitty, Wexford in Sect "B" with three in the first twenty Open.
Although the velocities were decent, this was not an easy race, arrivals were well spread out and sparodic, with some decent pigeons awol at clock checking.
As it happened, this seemed to be the pattern for all the organisations that liberated on the Friday.
Our next race is Dale, which is on this weekend, with birds being marked this evening (Thursday) hopefully for liberaton on Saturday.
The IHUNFC committe would like to thank the ISRF for the Transport provided, which add's signifigently to the success of tHe IHUNFC.
This week will see the addition of Sect "A" to the results as our many members in the Dublin area will come on board now that the channel programme has started,
also Sect "E" & "F" Will hopefully have some entries as well.
Please remember to make sure that your clock envelopes are fully and properly filled out when returning to your respective clock stations, as this will enable the publication of a speedy result.
